Many Deadheads are ambivalent about the 1980s in terms of the band's musical output. 1980, in particular, often elicits yawns. There was some fine, fine playin' done that year, though, and 12/12/80 at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernadino, CA is a slick example.
This little devil celebrates that show, which included a nice, upbeat “Friend of the Devil.” It's also worth noting that this was the Dead's first show after John Lennon was tragically killed and many reports say Jerry was in tears as he sung “He's Gone.”
